During the busy holiday season, Disney has implemented Genie+ changes and extended early park hours. Get the details below.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year—but also one of the busiest at Walt Disney World. To help with the surging crowds, Disney has announced two big temporary changes: one to Genie+ and Lightning Lane attractions and one to Early Park Time.
These changes are only in effect from Dec. 19, 2021 – Jan. 3, 2022.
Temporary Genie+ Changes
During the holidays, Disney is removing one Individual Lightning Lane selection from each of its four parks and adding it to the rides available via Genie+, meaning you won’t have to pay extra for these select attractions:
- Magic Kingdom: Space Mountain
- EPCOT: Frozen Ever After
- Hollywood Studios: Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Animal Kingdom: Expedition Everest
However, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Rise of the Resistance, and Flight of Passage will still be available via Individual Lightning Lane selection. These will not be a part of Genie+.

Changes to Early Park Entry
Resort guests can typically get a jump on rope drop by getting into each park 30 minutes before it opens to the public. However, during this brief time window during the 2021 holiday season, Disney has extended this to 60 minutes. That’s a full hour of extra park time with smaller crowds.
