We tried out this copycat recipe for EPCOT Glühwein, a perennial crowd favorite at the Germany booth at the Festival of the Holidays.

Willkommen! While I still can’t totally believe it is December, here we are. As temperatures continue to plummet, I think there’s only one way I can truly warm up my heart and my soul: a nice toasty mug of Glühwein.

Glühwein, also known as Glow Wine, as that’s how you feel as you drink it, is a holiday-spiced cocktail originating from Germany. Think of it as a winter sangria, but one that makes you feel all cozy.

Traditionally, people drink this libation as a means of warming up while strolling through winter markets, or in my case, strolling through EPCOT World Showcase.

Since first sipping this festive beverage at the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, it’s been a personal favorite and a new yearly tradition in my home. You’ll find it each year at the Germany booth (Bavaria Holiday Kitchen).

Should you not be able to make it to EPCOT’s Bavaria Holiday Kitchen in the Germany Pavillion to get a cup for yourself this year, fear not. We found an EPCOT Glühwein recipe that we’ve tried and fallen in love with.

I followed this recipe, but feel free to adjust based on your preferences. I’ve included some customizations worth giving a shot (pun intended) below.

It. Was. Wunderbar!

Let’s be honest: Warm red wine with spices is kind of an unbeatable combination, so when all mixed together, it’s a delightful celebration of adult winter flavors on your palate.

I will say, I found this particular recipe to be far too sweet for my taste. I could have easily gone with a full cup less of sugar. While still enjoyable, it’s worth considering your sweetness level preference when customizing your batch.

This recipe is incredibly easy to make and convenient as it consists of many ingredients you probably already have lying around. Should you want to spice it up a little more, you can try adding a dash of vanilla extract and cinnamon sticks while simmering, or even top it off with a shot of rum or Amaretto for an extra kick.

My biggest tip would be making sure the recipe always stays at a simmer, never boiling. Boiling will drastically affect the alcohol content and overall flavor.

I’d recommend trying out this EPCOT Glüwein recipe at your next holiday party or while sitting in front of a fire, reminiscing about your last Disney trip.

Disney and wine: The two go hand in hand. Especially at Disney Springs’ Wine Bar George. We recently ate there and tried out some delicious bottles; tap here for our full Wine Bar George review.

But to get our exclusive interview with Wine Bar George himself, you’ll need to get your hands on a copy of our special Food Issue of WDW Magazine, available now in our shop while supplies last.
