Carriage Rides at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

With all there is to see and do at The Walt Disney World Resort, it’s easy to overlook some of  the hidden gems tucked away from the theme parks.  Fort Wilderness is one of those hidden gems, and there’s a unique way that you can get around the resort are the carriage and wagon rides.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I can get burned out from the crowds and lines at the parks. That’s about the time, I mosey on over to The Fort Wilderness Resort.  What’s more relaxing than taking a 25 minute, old-fashioned horse-drawn wagon that weaves in and out of the camping loops.  At $8 for adults 10 and up and $5 for children (children under 3 are free),  it is one the most affordable activities available on property for families to do together. Depending on the season, you may even get to see the campsites all decked out in their holiday finest!

Want to upgrade a bit and go on a more intimate carriage ride? The carriage ride holds 2 adults and one small child and is just about the most romantic thing you can find. Carriage rides start at $45 for a 25-minute experience.

Trust me, your feet will thank you for this relaxing rest and bring your camera; you never know what you’ll see over at the Fort!  Be sure to wave to the friendly campers that you pass along the way. If you get a chance,  take a short walk on over to the Tri-Circle D Ranch and visit with the horses; they’re the same ones you see on Main Street USA pulling the trolleys and  Cinderella’s Coach!

Keep in mind, these are on a first come, first served basis, so I’d be sure to head on over to the campgrounds in plenty of time to get your name in.  Weather permitting, they depart daily at 6:00 and 8:30 across from Pioneer Hall, you’ll see the sign there.  There are also fireworks carriage rides so be sure to ask about those if that is what you want!

So giddyup on over across Bay Lake by boat, or by bus,  to Fort Wilderness next time you want to get away from it all!  You don’t even have to be a guest of The Fort or even a guest at any Disney hotel. I know you’ll be glad you did!
