Cakeworthy’s Disney Holiday Collection is definitely worth melting for!
About the Brand
It was all started by a screen printer.
Brandon Shedden started an Etsy shop as a personal hobby in 2011, where he sold screen printed t-shirts made from a craft kit. After his shop started to gain a following and popularity his brand, Cakeworthy, took off from there!
Cakeworthy is officially licensed with Disney and is home to some of our favorite Disney Style pieces including the Royalty jean jacket and multiple flannels with our beloved character’s quotes on the back of them. Whether you’ve recognized this brand or not, you have definitely seen their iconic all-over print t-shirts around the parks.
The charmingly playful name “Cakeworthy” is meant to mean something exciting, that is worthy of a celebration (worthy of cake—duh!)! Brandon says, “I think our products bring out excitement with our customers, whether they’re just excited to have new clothing or excited to be wearing something inspired by their favorite pop culture franchise.”
You got that right, Brandon! As a dedicated fan of this brand, I can confirm that clothes from Cakeworthy really brings out the excited fangirl in me. What can I say? I’m a material girl, in a material world. So what?
The Brand is Inclusive
Cakeworthy always pulls inspiration from 90’s fashion trends and then puts their own spin on them! Remember when they were one of the first brands to launch The Goofy Movie merch? Yeah… they did that!
Cakeworthy isn’t just inclusive when representing some of our favorite (but forgotten) characters, like Max Goof, Hercules, Megara, and Kuzco, but they’re also very inclusive of who they get to model their clothing. If you go to their shop, you will notice that the people photographed in their clothes are all normal people.
I was asked to pose for their Summer and Holiday collection this year, and let me tell you…my BMI is not that of a model’s! I’m just a regular person, who loves to wear my fave characters at every opportunity I get—and Brandon totally gets it!
When I asked Brandon if there was a reason behind this choice he said something that made me fall even more in love with his brand:
“When looking for ‘models’ we aren’t looking for a specific ethnicity, body type, gender, etc., We’re looking for people who like to have fun with their fashion because that’s who we are as a company. There is nothing corporate about us, and we try to convey that through our brand image.”
Perhaps the most outstanding thing about this brand is not only the diversity found in the people who model the clothes, but also how inclusive the sizing is for all body types. The sizes that are offered start at S and extend up to 4XL. This speaks volumes to the brand’s ethics, and how they want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to rock their favorite franchise.
Now that you know all about Cakeworthy, shall I take us through the different themes from the Holiday Collection now?
Some Imagination, huh?
My favorite part of Fantasmic is when Sorcerer Mickey is on the top of the mountain and conjures up a storm of fireworks for the grand finale of the show. I’ve seen him do it at least 50 times, and I still get chills! When I saw this collection I instantly starting planning an #OOTD for my next trip to Hollywood Studios.
Not only can you see Sorcerer Mickey making magic at Fantasmic, but something that often gets overlooked (because of Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge) is that you can meet Sorcerer Mickey at Hollywood Studios too! The flannel is a classic choice for Cakeworthy, but the cardigan is one of those special pieces that you can dress up or down.
Although it has a comfy feel to it, you can wear it to work with a nice pair of black pants, flats, and a white tee. Also, did you see how cute this beanie is? Perfect for those late nights at the parks! My favorite detail in this collection is that the brown bag is meant to be a DisneyBound version of the buckets from the iconic scene in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. I imagine a lot of people are brewing up some awesome Sorcerer Mickey DisneyBounds with these great accessories!
Kidnap The Sandy Claws!
It isn’t a holiday collection without including our favorite anti-heroes from The Nightmare Before Christmas. This season, Cakeworthy features two pieces inspired by Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas: an AOP shirt and a sweater. The shirt is great because I haven’t seen very many shirts with the gifts that Jack Skellington gives out to unsuspecting children for Christmas. This is the attention to detail that fans like me love—nice one, Cakeworthy!
The pullover sweater features our favorite little rag doll, Sally. My favorite detail on the sweater is that the bats are flying around Sally in a heart pattern—The Nightmare Before Christmas is a love story after all!
Cakeworthy has caught Frozen Fever
Get ready to ice up your life! Anna and Elsa are about to embark on their next adventure, and thanks to Cakeworthy, we can dress up for the occasion! They launched four Frozen-themed pieces in their Winter collection, and with the new movie coming out on November 20th, this couldn’t have come at a better time! Three flannels feature the most quotable lines from the first movie.
These quotes include: Some People are Worth Melting For, Do You Want To Build a Snowman? And of course, the song that has been stuck in our heads since 2013, Let it Go. Now that the temperatures are starting to drop (Elsa, was that you?) the flannels are perfect for your fall or winter #OOTD. If you’re lucky enough to live in a temperature not inspired by Queen Elsa’s ice storm, Cakeworthy has got you covered! The Frozen all-over print (AOP) features all of your favorite characters on one shirt, so you’re not burdened with the dilemma of having to choose which character you want to wear!
Kiss the Girl!
Remember that beautiful scene in The Little Mermaid when Ariel and Eric almost had their first kiss? I think it’s the most beautiful scene in the movie. The boat ride, the singing animals, the Prince. It’s all perfect—well—except for the kiss. Cakeworthy dropped two Little Mermaid themed pieces in the holiday collection, (one of which is from the Kiss the Girl scene)!
A sweater dress and reusable tote! Be a friend to the ocean, like Ariel, and reduce your carbon footprint by using a reusable bag instead of a plastic one! And with a bag this cute… it’s a win/win really!
Don’t be a guppy and get yours while supplies last!
Off to Neverland
Peter Pan is one of those movies that has so many adorable characters, and one of the sweetest and most loving character, Nana, is getting some extra attention this holiday season! This reusable tote bag with Nana on it is shaped like a heart—how fitting, who doesn’t love Nana? (Well… Mr. Darling. But that is beside the point!)
You can also score yourself a hat in the same beautiful soft blue color, to fully prepare yourself for your next trip to Never Land—or sunny Florida!
Attention Disney Cat Ladies!
Just like Marie, this satin jacket is the sassiest and most charming piece of the collection! The quote “Ladies do not start fights, but they can finish them” is detailed on the back of the jacket, and I think this light pink color, combined with the quote, makes the jacket a perfect combination of sweet and sassy.
Cakeworthy sells out of their merchandise pretty quickly due to their loyal fanbase, so if you have your eye on something, make sure you grab it while you still can!
If you are a fan of these pieces then I have GREAT news for you. When I asked Brandon what Cakeworthy fans can look forward to with future launches he said, “2020 is going to be a great year for us! We’ve just finished development on our summer 2020 collections, and expect to see some new licenses pop up!”
I don’t know about you… but I’m starting to save all my money for Summer 2020 now!
