Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will open in EPCOT this spring. Here’s when to make your park reservation.
Pack your Walkman (more likely than your owning a Zune) and start counting down the days. It’s almost time to climb aboard a Marvel ride at Walt Disney World!
Disney Parks announced this week that May 27, 2022 will mark the grand opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT.
Disney also confirmed there be no standby line when Guardians of the Galaxy opens on May 27. Guests will need to join a virtual queue via My Disney Experience to ride.

Zach Ridley has shared regular updates over at Disney Parks Blog. In September of 2021, he gave us a quick glimpse at construction on the attraction. In the image below, you’ll see Disney Imagineers Tom Fitzgerald (left) and Scot Drake inside the in-progress Galaxarium.
According to Riddley, the Galaxarium is part of the Wonders of Xandar pavilion and will feature “a planetarium-type presentation.” Here, you’ll learn all about the race that Rocket Raccoon said is “always trying to get from something stupid to nothing at all.” Friendly reminder that Rocket’s a bit gruff.
Guardians of the Galaxy: What to Expect
Disney released the above video to tease fans ahead of the opening date at EPCOT, along with a bit of story to get you hyped:
“…people from the planet Xandar are coming to Earth and creating the first “other-world” showcase at EPCOT – the Wonders of Xandar pavilion. We know we’ll learn more about their technology and culture as we move through the pavilion, and discover how our two worlds are similar in so many ways.”
Orlando Weekly reported that the $450 million coaster will be one of the largest enclosed coasters in the world. Maybe the galaxy!
Imagine an EPCOT where this ride anchors the Northeast corner of the park, bringing new traffic across the soon-to-open Play Pavilion, Mission: Space, and Test Track areas.
Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind Tells a Story
One of the most exciting parts of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind? What Zach and Disney are calling a “storycoaster.”
According to Zach, the GotG storycoaster “rotates 360 degrees so you’re always focused on all the action as you help the Guardians save the galaxy.” This cool approach is what former EPCOT Vice President Melissa Valiquette hinted at when the ride was announced way back in 2017.
This will also be the first roller coaster in Disney history with a reverse launch function. And as a nice cherry on top, it’ll be one of the longest enclosed coasters ever built in this galaxy or any other.
Sounds exciting, right? You can also get a sneak peek at the building that’ll house the storycoaster. WDW Magazine co-owners Stephanie and Danny Shuster took a tour of the coaster building this week, enjoying what they dubbed an out-of-this-world experience.
Grab your Groot, because you can count on more cool details to come about Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind as we get closer to its launch at EPCOT on May 27, 2022.

- Make sure you have an EPCOT reservation
- Get to the park early. Even if you don’t get a reservation for the ride, parking and transportation will be harder to navigate on this day.
