Blizzard Beach Reopening: Three Places You’re Not Allowed to Wear a Mask

The Blizzard Beach reopening happens on March 7, 2021 with specific mask policies in place.

Blizzard Beach is reopening next month, and since the closure of Disney Parks in March 2020, the topic of waterpark operation has been one of wide speculation.

The rules surrounding masks are very strict at the parks. If you’re caught walking around Batuu with your mask down while sipping on blue milk, a Cast Member is sure to gently remind you to lift that mask back up.

Even with the vaccine, WDW still requires masks.

So how does a no-mask policy work at Blizzard Beach?

Blizzard Beach Mask Policy

Masks will be required in all areas of the park, except in the water. In fact, face-coverings are not permitted in the water, or while “experiencing waterslides.”

As stated on the Disney Parks site,  the same mask policy for the theme parks is in place for Blizzard Beach: Masks can be removed while actively eating or drinking, but guests must be stationary and follow physical distancing.

Blizzard Beach additions to the rules include: “…at the park entrance and exit, retail areas, and food and beverage ordering areas. Face coverings will not be permitted while experiencing water slides or in the water.”

Since masks can not be worn on waterslides, this leaves us wondering if masks will be worn while in line for these slides.

We don’t have word yet on that policy, but we do expect the lines to bear markers that generously space ride parties.

With guests darting in and out of the water, when will masks be in place?

Expect the same kind of mask compliance near the shores of the Blizzard Beach pools that you see at Disney Resort pools.

At Disney Resort pools, guests are currently permitted to forego masks while sitting socially-distanced away from other parties while consuming food or drink.

Masks should be worn as much as possible around the pools, particularly when leaving or entering the pool area.

Masks on the lazy river? Blizzard Beach’s 3000-foot long Cross Country Creek lazy river is slated to be open, and the current policy states that masks will not be worn while bobbing through the water.

Safety Policies at Blizzard Beach

Aside from face-covering requirements, Blizzard Beach will have the usual safety protocols in place at the park:

  • Reduced capacity
  • Temperature screenings
  • Physical distancing markings

The temperature screenings will occur at the park entrance. For more information on how these work, check out our blog on screening procedures.

Blizzard Beach Reopening

To be clear, masks will not be allowed in these three areas of Blizzard Beach:

  • Pools or in any water
  • All Waterslides
  • Cross Country Creek lazy river

Tickets for Blizzard Beach are now on sale for arrivals beginning March 7, 2021.

Please keep in mind the specific mask requirements for this park, and sound off on our Facebook page if you have a new experience to share.
