Ahsoka on Disney+: A Spoiler-Free Review

by | Aug 22, 2023 | Disney+

WDW Magazine got a preview of what’s to come for ‘Ahsoka’ on Disney+, and we’re sharing our thoughts on the first two episodes.

Another incredible Star Wars story is coming to the small screen! Ahsoka, the story of Jedi Ahsoka Tano, is making its way to Disney+ to introduce fans to a whole new world of stories throughout the galaxy. What can you expect? WDW Magazine was invited to preview the first two episodes of the Disney+ series Ahsoka – and we’re here to tell you that Star Wars fans will be thrilled! Below, read our spoiler-free review on the first two episodes you can watch on Disney+ when Ahsoka premieres on August 22, 2023.

Star Wars Fan-Favorite Characters Return

Our first thoughts when we attend the Ahsoka screening? Holy moly! That’s all we can say.

The first two episodes of this Disney+ series were amazing. Without giving away any spoilers, we can tell viewers that you are going to see the Star Wars characters you know and love appear in this live-action show.

If you’ve watched the animated series Star Wars Rebels or Star Wars: The Clone Wars, characters from both will pop up in the new Ahsoka series. You may have spotted a few already in the trailers for this new show – but expect more to come. Their first live-action appearances will wow you! You might want to brush up on these series so you can catch all of the references (though those who haven’t seen them will still be able to watch!).

Those who haven’t watched Star Wars Rebels or Star Wars: The Clone Wars will still get pulled right into the storyline of Ahsoka. The episodes do a great job of explaining aspects that new viewers might miss in small phrases or little nuances, making it easy to pick up on when something big is happening. It’ll certainly make you want to go back and watch those earlier animated series!

Regardless of how much prior knowledge about Ahsoka Tano and the other characters who appear in this new Disney+ series you have, you’re going to be completely in love with everything you see. Ahsoka is true to its backstory and builds a new world for less knowledgeable Star Wars fans learning about these characters for the first time.

There’s Plenty of Star Wars Nostalgia in Ahsoka

Although Ahsoka is a new series within the larger Star Wars universe, it doesn’t skimp on nostalgia or references to the past. There’s so much nostalgia in everything from old characters to the outfits and uniforms the characters are wearing.

You’ll definitely spot items from the original Star Wars films – the story of Ahsoka takes place in the time frame of the New Republic coming together. If you’re a longtime fan, you’ll feel like you’re completely reimmersed into 1977 when you watched that first movie.

New to the Star Wars characters and universe? You’ll still love the series, and you’ll be drawn in very quickly.

Episodes Are Action-Packed

In the two episodes of Ahsoka that we were able to preview, the action scenes were incredible. They’ll have you on the edge of your seat!

The performance of characters in the series draws you in immediately – there’s action, there’s suspense. And the fight scenes are incredible; they’re top notch.

But in addition to the standout action scenes, Ahsoka also has a storyline that’s intriguing and captivating. It feels like you’re not watching a series, but rather a movie in hour-long chunks.

In our opinion, these first two episodes of Ahsoka are as good as the first season of The Mandalorian – if not better! The graphics, the visuals, the costuming; everything is incredible. The Ahsoka team just nailed every aspect.

We’re excited to see how Ahsoka and its stories will add to the overall Star Wars universe with existing series like The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian, and all of the others to come, including future movies!
