Disney After Hours BOO BASH: A New Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom

by | May 7, 2021 | Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World News, WDW Blog

Here are all the offerings and dates for the new After Hours BOO BASH at Magic Kingdom.

BOO to YOU! Disney Parks has just announced the After Hours BOO BASH at Magic Kingdom!

Yes, after mourning Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, we finally have some great news on Halloween happenings at Walt Disney World!

What is After Hours BOO BASH?

Think of it similar to the “Taste of” festivals at EPCOT that we have seen since COVID-19 safety protocol was put into place.

But for Halloween!

The idea behind After Hours BOO BASH is that it will be a shorter, less crowded experience than a traditional Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

After Hours BOO BASH will run from August 10th to October 31st, 2021.

  • Each event will start when the park closes and will last three hours
  • After Hours BOO BASH will run from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM most nights
  • Event tickets grant guests entry to the park as early as 7:00 PM on the day of the After Hours BOO BASH

Keep in mind that BOO BASH occurs during the Taste of Food and Wine at EPCOT, so an August trip really could be packed will ALL the tricks and treats.

Do I need to Buy a BOO BASH Ticket?

Yes. Like other After Hours events at Magic Kingdom (such as Villains After Hours) this is a hard-ticketed separate event.

Tickets will go on sale in June 2021. Ticket prices have yet to be announced, but in the past, we’ve seen After Hours tickets set at around $130 per adult or child.

We will report an exact ticket sales date as we find out.

Tickets will likely sell out quickly, as capacity is predicted to be lower than a typical After Hours event. Get your dates as soon as you plan to go.

Are Costumes Allowed?

During the After Hours BOO BASH at Magic Kingdom, adults and kids alike can wear a costume to the park.

In 2020, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party was canceled, so Walt Disney World relaxed its costume rules so that adults could dress up as their favorite characters during regular park hours and truly escape for a day.

But in 2021, adults will not be allowed to wear costumes in the parks outside of the After Hours celebration.

If you’re wondering how to dress up and stay within the guidelines, here are 4 Ways to Wear a Costume at WDW Without Breaking the Rules.

Attractions Open at BOO BASH

From Disney: “The experience offers low wait times at more than 20 attractions from classics like the Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain, to newer favorites like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.”

We will announce all the rides as soon as we find out! Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know.

Disney has promised all kinds of special Halloween treats, and we’re not surprised! Magic Kingdom always turns out the best pumpkin, candy corn, and caramel treats during the Halloween season.

And YES… there will be candy. So much candy. If you’ve ever been to MNSSHP, you know that Disney will absolutely challenge you to be able to eat it all.

Spooky Entertainment

Halloween character cavalcades will be trailing down the street, and you’re likely to see some Halloween-season exclusive villains.

Even Jack Skellington and some grave diggers? We’re not sure about ALL the haunts present, but Disney has confirmed the following:

  • Special performances by the Cadaver Dans
  • Character sightings throughout the park, including Dr. Facilier and Captain Barbosa Goofy, and Chip ‘n’ Dale
  • Halloween-themed cavalcades

WDW Magazine reporters will be at BOO BASH so that you can check it out and see if you’d like to score a ticket.

What is After Hours?

If you’ve never been to a Magic Kingdom After Hours event, then you have yet to enjoy the park flipped into high gear.

After Hours is a separately ticketed event that starts after Magic Kingdom closes.

For the After Hours BOO BASH, this means a start time of around 9:00 PM, but could vary depending on when the park closes each day.

The best part about an After Hours event is that the number of tickets is limited, so the park feels very empty, and lines are short for every ride.

We think the After Hours BOO BASH will be similar to the Villains After Hours events we have seen in the past.

After Hours events usually include the following:

  • Appearances by rarely seen characters
  • Low wait times for all attractions
  • Complimentary snacks
  • Special event merchandise on sale
  • Exclusive event entertainment and dance parties
  • Only select rides are open, but it’s most of them

After Hours tickets are typically sold way in advance because the dates fill up fast.
