A complete guide to the AAPI celebrations at Disney World for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month this May.

May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and Disney has revealed what they will be doing to celebrate. From new treats to PhotoPass offerings, here’s what you’ll want to look out for when visiting Disney World this month!

AAPI Celebrations in Disney World 2023

Entertainment at Disney World

Over at Disney Springs, the Disney Springs Kids Club will feature Polynesian luau performers with story drumming and dancing from May 6th to May 27th, 2023. There will also be several live entertainment options at the Orange Node, including:

  • DJ Pram featuring two Bollywood-style dancers: May 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th
  • Lahjit, a Salt Lake City, Utah band: May 7th and 8th
  • The Collective, a vocal group celebrating boy bands and K-pop: May 14th, 15th, 28th, and 29th
  • NETANE Polynesian Productions: May 21st and 22nd

Last year, the Disney Springs Art Walk: A Canvas of Expression debuted with its first pieces of art. now, you can check out artwork from two new artists added to the wall. Vietnames-American artist Thao Huynh French and Cambodian-American artist Andrew Hem have both had artwork added in Disney Springs. French uses “texture and bright colors to create captivating graffiti art,” while Hem’s work features “little details hidden throughout…and experience the joy of childhood.”

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Viva Gaia Street Band will also be adding in songs this month from the movie Moana, and Disney also highlighted taiko, an ancient form fo Japanese drumming, with daily performances from Matsuriza in the Japan pavilion.

There are a few Magic Shot options celebrating MoanaTurning Red, and Big Hero 6 as well. At the Disney PhotoPass Studio in Disney Springs, you can pose in front of a Turning Red-inspired virtual background. And in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can get a Magic Shot with Baymax from Big Hero 6.

Movies Under the Stars at Disney World Hotels

In celebration of AAPI month, the Disney World hotels will be offering special Movies Under the Stars, featuring movies including Big Hero 6, Up, Lilo & Stitch, and Mulan.
