Festival Favorites Booth Reviews
Press photos are one thing, but honest reviews and on-site photos are better! Here are photos of what we were served and our candid thoughts on this year’s selections.
Watermelon Salad Review

- Watermelon Salad (Gluten/Wheat Friendly); $4.25
- With Pickled Onions, Feta, and Balsamic Reduction
WDW Magazine Managing Editor, Rain Blanken: “I had reported that the goat cheese on the avocado toast at Sunshine Griddle was too much. This dish gets it right. There are equal portions of goat cheese and watermelon, and that watermelon can really hold its own. Together they create wonderfully fresh and dimensional bites.”
Beef Brisket Review

- Beef Brisket Burnt Ends and Smoked Pork Belly Slider; $7.50
- With Garlic Sausage, Chorizo, Cheddar Fondue, and House-made Pickle
WDW Magazine Managing Editor, Rain Blanken: “My husband and I love burnt ends, so we were excited to try this slider. However, we didn’t get much meat on there. The meat-to-bun ratio was off. Lots of bun, not enough meat. The meat tasted good, especially with the fondue, but the burnt ends were a bit dry, so that pickle had to work overtime. Put the pickle in the sandwich to offer a moist enough bite. This one is still worth a try if you are a burnt ends fan.”
Fried Green Tomatoes Review

Fried Green Tomatoes. Photo by Todd Turner
- Fried Green Tomatoes; $6.25
- With Blue Crab-Fennel Salad, Remoulade, and Smoked Paprika Oil
WDW Magazine Managing Editor, Rain Blanken: “This is a dish that suffers from logistics. I love blue crab. I love fried green tomatoes. Each tasted good, but the combination didn’t work. When the tomatoes are plated directly on the crab… you just kind of get soggy and cold fried green tomatoes. Fried food is decidedly better when hot. If you order this, bat the tomatoes away from the crab immediately. I would definitely order this again with that strategy in mind!”
Key Lime Tart Review

- Key Lime Tart; $4.75
- with Toasted Meringue
WDW Magazine Managing Editor, Rain Blanken: “Sweet, and not too tart. It’s exactly the middle ground I love to taste in a good key lime anything. Lots of key lime dishes go too sweet or too tart. This is just right. Cute, easy to eat, and fun to share.”
