Next year will be an AMAZING year to visit Walt Disney World. If you are not sure if 2020 is your year, I can tell you right now – it is!

The past several years, have been great with oodles of new magical experiences at Walt Disney World. And it’s only going to get better.

I never need a reason to visit Walt Disney World. It’s my happy place and I love the magic I get to share with my family. In case you are trying to convince your spouse, mother, sister, brother, or yourself that you really need to go on a trip to Walt Disney World next year, here are 20 reasons to visit in 2020.

  1. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens on August 29, 2019. Crowds are expected to be plentiful. It’s a highly anticipated opening, after all. Visiting in 2020 will allow the initial surge of diehards to visit. You won’t want to miss exploring the 14 acres of Batuu, and there’s no better time to visit than when an attraction is new. It’s a really cool feeling. There’s so much to take in and you will feel fully immersed in this new land.
  2. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Being able to pilot the Millennium Falcon has been the dream of many, and Disney makes your dreams come true. When you visit in 2020, you will have the chance to be the pilot, engineer, or gunner for the famous Falcon. The attraction is highly interactive, and you are in charge of how the flight goes!

  3. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance The opening date for this second attraction in Galaxy’s Edge is cited as “later this year”. By waiting until 2020, you will be able to see Batuu in its entirety, as it was meant. Rise of the Resistance is going to be epic, like nothing we have seen before.

  4. Custom Merchandise Along with the incredible adventures that Galaxy’s Edge brings, there will be merchandise you can design yourself. First, Savi’s Workshop allows you to build your own lightsaber. Droid Depot is the place to be to create the perfect droid for you. There will also be Black Spire Outpost exclusive apparel.

  5. Out of This World Food! 2020 is the perfect time to take your food and beverage experiences to an intergalactic level! Grab some grub at Oga’s Cantina or Docking By 7 Food and Cargo. Quench your thirst and sample some deliciousness at Milk Stand, Ronto Roasters, or Kat Saka’s Kettle.

Yes, as you can see a lot of 2020 is focused on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. This new land is taking Disney’s Hollywood Studios to a whole new level! Don’t worry if you aren’t a huge Star Wars fan, there’s a lot for you to experience in 2020. Find out below!

  1. Epcot Forever With IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth closing on September 30th, Epcot Forever is replacing this 20 year-old nighttime experience on October 1, 2019. This is expected to run for a limited time featuring fireworks, laser effects, choreographed kites, and a memorable soundtrack. An all-new nighttime spectacular is expected to debut in 2020.

  2. Space-Themed Restaurant Late 2019 will welcome a space-themed restaurant to Epcot beside the Mission: SPACE attraction. You can be one of the first to experience this unique dining experience that will truly be “out-of-this-world.”

  3. Takumi-Tei The Japan pavilion in Epcot is receiving a new signature dining restaurant in Summer 2019. That means, you have one more restaurant to add to your 2020 list of must-try deliciousness. Try the wagyu beef or a multi-course meal with traditional tea service.

  4. Epcot is Changing Over the next several years, Epcot will be transforming. The main entrance area is currently under construction, and the Guardians of the Galaxy and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attractions are being built, and several new shows/movies are being designed for various pavilions. Although D23 in August will reveal more about Epcot’s future, visiting in 2020 will allow you to see the progress right before your eyes!

  5. Celebrate YOU!  There’s nothing like taking a trip to celebrate YOU. Maybe it’s a milestone birthday, graduation, anniversary, beating cancer, weight loss goal, or you just need a trip. Don’t wait. Time keeps moving. There’s no better place to celebrate than at Disney World. Don’t feel guilty. Celebrate YOU!

  1. Special Events Change! Back for the fourth year, you can experience artists and their talents at the Epcot International Festival of the Arts. Visual artists, performers, and culinary artists are showcased in early January – February. Dates have not yet been announced for this event. In 2019 changes are being made to the fireworks spectacular for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. What does this mean for you in 2020? There’s always something new to see! There’s also bound to be something new at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival in the spring and the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival in the fall. Planning a vacation around one of these special events is the perfect reason to visit Walt Disney World in 2020.

  2. So Much NEW From 2019 Maybe you won’t get the chance to visit in 2019, or it’s been a few years since you have been to Walt Disney World. There are so many new things that arrived in 2019 alone! Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A new restaurant, Jaleo, arrived in Disney Springs along with some new retail locations. Plus, Rivers of Light: We Are One received an update.

  3. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Opens Originally scheduled to open in 2019, the official opening has been pushed pack for this attraction. Now the anticipated opening is Spring 2020. Guests will find themselves in a cartoon world with original songs and some special effects. It’s going to be great to have something else take over the old home of The Great Movie Ride and this sounds exciting!

  4. A New Resort Hotel Disney’s Riviera Resort is scheduled to open on December 16, 2019. There isn’t a better way to stay on Disney property in 2020 than in a brand-new, barely been used, resort hotel. Plus, you’ll have access to the nearby Disney Skyliner (more on that below).

  5. Surprise Experiences New experiences pop up all the time at Walt Disney World. Many are only around for a little while. Sometimes you can find seasonal merchandise or Magic Shots for the Disney PhotoPass Service.  Disney has also limited specialty snacks or experiences, such as the Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party at Disney’s Animal Kingdom that is taking place Summer 2019. You are bound to have your own unique experiences in 2020, a memory to have forever.

  6. Disney Skyliner Gondolas Another transportation option is expected to open sometime in the fall of 2019, so 2020 will be the perfect time to step aboard the Disney Skyliner! These distinctively designed gondolas feature your favorite Disney characters and will travel between Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Pop Century, Disney’s Art of Animation, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Riviera Resort.

  7. Lull in the Crowds? Okay, this is speculation, but there may be a lull in the crowds. With all of the die-hard fans visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in late 2019 and the Walt Disney World super-fans holding out for the 50th anniversary celebration in 2021 where many under-construction attractions will be open, perhaps 2020 will be the year of smaller crowds. Crowds have been a little unpredictable in recent years at Walt Disney World. Slow times have picked up, crowded times haven’t been as bad. Sometimes you just never know. Give 2020 a try, maybe you’ll get lucky and crowds won’t be too bad.

  8. New Attractions Opening Early? To go along with number 17, there are many attractions that are currently under construction to open in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021. This is a major celebration for Disney. I can’t see them waiting until the last minute for these attractions (Guardians of the Galaxy coaster, TRON, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, etc.) to open. Therefore, planning a trip for late 2020 might yield some newer attractions being open. No official date has been given for these future attractions, but you never know!

  9. You can’t See it All in One Trip Did you just visit Walt Disney World last year? Are you planning on visiting Walt Disney World next year or the year after? No matter when you’re going or when you’ve been, you can’t see everything at Walt Disney World on one trip. Maybe 2020 can be the year to sneak in a trip. Make it a point to start off by experiencing the attractions or restaurants you may have missed on a previous trip or try something you’ve never tried before.

  10. The magical feeling you get from being at Disney World. Anyone who has ever visited knows the feeling when you walk through the gates and see Cinderella Castle for the first or fiftieth time. It’s the feeling of pure happiness. Visit in 2020 for this feeling alone. Your heart will thank you.

2020 for the Win!

With 20 reasons to visit Walt Disney World in 2020, and even more new experiences on the horizon, do you really need another reason to go? Disney is constantly adding and renovating, and this is only the tip of what 2020 will bring. In fact, the closer we get to the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World in 2021, the more you will see and the crazier it will get.
